Approach & philosophy

Structure matters because people matter.

CROS3 approaches meaningful change as both a human and practical endeavor. Good work needs direction, evidence, clear commitments, respect for legitimate authority, and judgment when conditions change.

CROS3 Success Model™

Vision and Commitment are conceptually interdependent.

The CROS3 Success Model™ is conceptual, not a numerical scoring system, empirical equation, or measure of human worth. Multiplication represents interdependence: if direction, motivation, focus, honor, respect, or duty collapses, the experience of success is weakened.

Success = Vision × Commitment

Vision

Vision = Direction × Motivation × Focus

Direction, Motivation, and Focus help people understand where effort should go, why it matters, and what deserves sustained attention.

Commitment

Commitment = Honor × Respect × Duty

Honor, Respect, and Duty keep action grounded in a standard that can be carried under pressure.

Honor

Honor calls for candor about the aim, the conditions, and the constraints. Integrity and a moral standard matter because progress that abandons them is not the kind of success CROS3 seeks to describe.

Respect

Respect shapes how people listen, define roles, make commitments, communicate, and handle disagreement. Agreement by silence is not a durable foundation for meaningful action.

Duty

Duty turns intention into responsible follow-through. Devotion to Duty is the full U.S. Coast Guard Core Value that informs this element; Duty is the compact model term for broader application.

Judgment

Tools and structure can support better work, but they do not replace human judgment. The people closest to the context remain responsible for legitimate decisions and outcomes.

Distinct but connected

The Success Model and the Consulting C™ serve different purposes.

The Success Model offers a human and behavioral foundation for reflection. The Consulting C™ gives CROS3 a shared approach for helping clients move from direction to action through coaching or consulting. They support each other without becoming the same thing.

One shared progression

The Consulting C™ follows one exact sequence: CLARIFY → COMPREHEND → CONSTRUCT → CONTRACT → COMMIT → CONDUCT → CLOSE. The phases are not one-to-one sessions. Each phase asks for the level of clarity, preparation, agreement, or review that the work calls for before it moves on.

Closing and continuing

Clients retain ownership of decisions and action. When an important criterion remains unresolved, the work stays with the relevant phase or returns to it rather than being marked complete. CLOSE records completion or closure of the agreed operating period or process; it does not mean every client-defined outcome has been achieved. The next decision can be COMPLETE, CONTINUE to Rolling O™, TERMINATE, or NEW CONSULTING C™. Rolling O™ returns to COMPREHEND when a valid direction remains unfinished; it is not an eighth phase.
